I finally have an evening off with no plans. I had training this morning to become a trainer at my location, so I worked from 7:30-1:30. It was actually really nice to be done with work so early in the day. Unfortunately Scott has to work all day long, but it does give me time to relax and do some blogging.
I decided that since I never finished blogging about our road trip that I could do that now.
I left off with meeting up with Dad so he could tow our car. We drove through Arizona and stopped at the Sonoran Desert Museum. It was one of the neatest museums I have ever been to. We did not know what to expect so it was a great surprise. Most of the museum is outside. There are many trails through the desert where you can observe wildlife and nature. Dispersed throughout the desert are different habitats they have created for animals that are native to the area. So it is like a zoo and a museum combined. There are many volunteers that work there and are walking and standing along the trails to offer information and to teach you about the dessert plants and animals.
We enjoyed out time there! We especially liked watching the Harris Hawks flying over our heads and hunting for food at the Raptors of the Desert show.
After we visited the museum we went on our way to New Mexico!
In New Mexico we visited Rock Hound State Park. Not many people know about it and thats what makes it so cool. Rockhound is located at the base of some desert mountains where simi-precious stones can be found.
We spent the afternoon there looking under cactuses and sorting through pebbles looking for beautiful rocks. We were able to find some pretty cool ones. The awesome thing is that each person can take up to like 10 or 15 pounds of rock home with them so we got to keep all of our fun rocks.
Scott was really good at finding awesome ones! We think they might be thunder eggs which are solid geodes. We are waiting to find someone with a diamond tip saw to cut them open.
After leaving the state park we headed to Carlsbad Caverns.
The opening of the cave was gorgeous and huge! A picture can not capture the true beauty but it will have to do since I can not put a copy of my memory online.
There is a hike starting at the natural entrance of the cave or you can ride an elevator down to the main part of the cave. Scott and I decided to make the hike down from the natural entrance and met dad down at the bottom. It was a little spooky entering the cave especially since we were one of the only people there and it was dark and quiet. It was an experience we will never forget though.
I took a lot more pictures on Scotts phone and my camera. I will have to upload them to my computer so I can add them. The caves were amazing and there were so many beautiful things to see. We spent an entire day in the caves and we didnt even see 1/8th of what is there. There are hundreds of miles of caves at Carlsbad. There are even more caves that they are still discovering.
This next part I wrote while we were on our trip so I will interject it here.
Here I am lying in bed trying to sleep. I found out from my awesome sister that there is a blogger app for I phones so my life just became way easier! As soon as I decided to go to sleep a thunderstorm began. In the motorhome it sounds like marbles hitting the roof. The raindrops are huge apparently. As everything is bigger in Texas. There is also Extremely bright lightning and thunder that sounds like it is breaking over our heads. I think it shaking the motorhome.
We arrived at my brother Michael's house this evening after driving from Balmoreah state park this morning. It was a long drive but enjoyable with the comforts of the motorhome. We stopped in Fredricksberg on our way to Round Rock. It's a really neat town that was settled by German pioneers in the 1800's. They had a beautiful German pyramid in the park, and other Christmas decorations.
We ate diner at The Brewery a restaurant on the main st. We all had german food with names the waitress and we couldn't even pronounce. Funny enough but no German people worked there. After diner Scott and I walked around the town looking in store windows because unfortunately they had all closed.
A few hours later we arrived safely at Michael and Cynthia's and were greeted by the kids. We had a nice chat before we all went to bed,
Tomorrow Scott and I are heading off to San Antonio to the Alamo and River walk.
Now that I have 3G I can update you on our past weeks travels. I had planned on doing this a few nights ago but we ended up with no Internet connection at all so I will update yOu all soon. As the say in Texas. Howdy y'all!
Before heading to San Antonio and to the Alamo we stopped to get some delicious and famous donuts!
Cant describe how tasty these were!
O and dont forget the MONSTER of Donuts!
Had lunch at Bun n Barrel. Another place from Triple D. Yum yum!
After we got home from San Antonio I got the opportunity to decorate a cake with my future baker of a niece Brianne. It was so much fun but also bitter sweet because we knew we had to leave in the morning.
I was so happy I got the opportunity to spend time with my beautiful nieces and cute nephew. I dont get to see them very often so it was a nice treat!
Next up... Cockrell Butterfly Exhibit in Houston. In the morning we left Michaels house and headed to see the butterflies on our way out of Texas.
The butterflies were beautiful, but the mosquitos attacked me!
New Orleans here we come!
This guy was crazy! He was standing like that without moving an itch.
I loved this store! All cook books new and used from all over. All kinds.
Looks like Disneyland... wait?
Our first beignet and hot chocolate! There was so much powdered sugar.
We bought some fun mardi gras masks!
This is pretty much all we saw of Mississippi and Georgia
Needless to say it was a beautiful sunset.
And then we ended up in FLORIDA!
Our final destination DISNEY WORLD!!!
